After finishing our 2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedan road test, we were excited to go the other spectrum and get into the sporty Genesis Coupe. What we found was a LOT of power packed into this coupe!

Exterior Design

The 2015 Hyundai Genesis Coupe is unmistakably a sporty car. It has an overall lower profile, aggressive 19” wheels and sleek windows. As a result, the field of vision is somewhat limited but this is expected given that it’s a sporty coupe – we had to be extra diligent in clearing our blind spots.

Overall, we love the look of the front headlights, and even the hood echoed the angled design that is seen throughout the car.

Interior Design

The interior is consistent with the sporty feel. The seats are bucketed, and we felt ‘tucked in’ driving this car. The instrument cluster mixes old school and new school with analog and digital gauges.

The centre console is riddled with information and buttons. The good news: everything you need is in one spot. The bad news: Until you get used to the layout, it can seem overwhelming. Added in are three analog gauges for any car enthusiast: fuel consumption, torque and oil temperature.

Overall, while the seats themselves were comfortable the interior felt small as a result of limited windows and physical space (especially the back seat). Having said that, it’s definitely consistent with the feel of most sports cars.

We were impressed with the trunk space, compared to most coupes there was more room available!

Under the Hood

Overall, the components under the hood are well laid-out. The washer fluid top up is right at the front of the engine bay while the battery is up top right in front of the passenger side.

Other reservoirs are clearly marked and it’s relatively easy to read the fluid level. For those interested in doing certain maintenance items, the air filter is easily accessible.

Child Car Seat

We have installed rear-facing child car seats for our clients in previous Genesis Coupe generations and it’s do-able… just be prepared that you’ll lose the front passenger seat in order to accommodate the correct recline angle. The rear seats also have a bucket shape to them so you will need to use pool noodles during the rear-facing installation.

In terms of installing a forward-facing child car seat, keep in mind that the headrest is not removable so the tether strap will make an indent in the headrest cushion when installed tightly. Safety first! We did find with our specific booster seat that it was slightly wider than the seat bucket so it didn’t sit flush.

Last thing to note is that the UAS anchors were clearly marked and easy to reach during installation.

Notable Features

Here are other features that we loved:

Seatbelt Guide

No more twisting your back or arm to reach the seatbelt. The 2015 Hyundai Genesis Coupe has a seatbelt guide that keeps the belt forward, making it easy to reach.

Seatback Lever

Some coupes have cumbersome levers to move the front passenger seat forward so other passengers can get into the back. The Genesis Coupe has an accessible lever right behind the front passenger seat.

Window Switch

The window and door lock switches are conveniently located along the front door panels. We like the angled position of the switches as this leads to a smaller chance of moisture pooling in the switch, which may lead to premature switch failure.

The one thing we really had a hard time with was the exhaust noise, especially at highway speeds. If you’re looking for an affordable sports car with lots of power, the 2015 Hyundai Genesis Coupe is worth looking at! Our model tested starts at $37,199CAD.
