AutoNiche Women's Auto Repair Service opened its doors in March 2009. The idea for AutoNiche grew out of owner and founder Emily Chung’s frustration with the auto repair industry—she was tired of feeling that she was being taken advantage of when she took her car in for servicing. Emily thought it would be great if someone were to open a car repair shop catering to women. She just never imagined that she would be the one to do it!

Emily's passion for cars began at an early age. She didn’t play with dolls, but there were always lots of Hot Wheels® in the toy-box! Her family owned an automotive parts company, and as the only child, it was thought that Emily would take over the business one day.

While on maternity leave with her second child, Emily decided to pursue the Automotive Service Technician – Level 1 program at Centennial College . She placed second out of her entire class and received the Toronto Automotive Dealers Association apprentice scholarship. She is presently working towards her auto mechanic's license.

She was still in school when the idea to open AutoNiche started taking shape. Emily began planning the business—making contact with suppliers, finding a location, renovating, arranging for licensing and purchasing equipment—all while finishing her course and caring for a baby and a toddler. With a psychology and business degree from the University of Waterloo , Emily has an ideal background for running a business.

The goal of AutoNiche is to empower and educate women (and even men!), to show them that a car is not a “big scary hunk of metal” and the experience of taking a car in for servicing can be a positive one. The staff at AutoNiche bring over 25 years of technical experience and over 15 years of automotive parts experience. For anyone who has had an unpleasant car care service experience, we invite you to try the AutoNiche difference.

Just wanted to thank the staff at AutoNiche for the amazing service. Your attention to detail and personal touches (like the tag on my rear view mirror) really makes your shop stand out. I was really impressed and I will definitely come back for any other car services I need in the future.

Thanks!

Rita A.

I just wanted to let you know how impressed I was with your new shop! I have emailed some of my friends and coworkers already.

I just wanted to say what a great event Auto Niche hosted on May 2nd. My Mom, Dorothy, and I thoroughly enjoyed it as did the other ladies I had a chance to speak to. My Mom was so inspired by the clinic she took my Dad's car out on Sunday to check his tire pressure. Having Jessica co-present alongside you made the discussion interesting and we all learned something new! It was evident a HUGE amount of effort went into the planning as it all went off without a hitch. Hats off to your whole team (and I know that includes family as I saw your Mom working hard on Saturday)

Congratulations on the official grand opening!
